We hatched out 7 chicks in our new incubator in December and moved them outside to the bantam pen when they got their "hard" feathers instead of baby fluff. Our bantam roosters were picking on one baby so we brought it back inside. Little did I know then, it would become a full fledged house chick. Said chick started in a box (old cat litter box that was thoroughly cleaned and set up with a waterer, shavings, feed dish and framed chicken wire lid) and now roams the house with the cat, 3 dogs and 3 indoor bunnies. "Cutie" as she has since been named joins us for TV watching, eating dinner, and follows my husband around the house or sits perched on his wheelchair frame as he pushes from room to room during the day while I am at work. She is a bit feisty and holds her own when the dogs bump her with their tails or put their noses a little too close for her liking. She plays tag with the cat (he's super amazingly tolerant and gentle with the babies...as she's not the first one he's been around). Her latest trick and accomplishment is discovering her wings aid in allowing her to get up on... whatever she wants basically including but not limited to... the dinner table, the dresser, my husband's lap, the top of the bed...where she can then get to the top of my head when I am sitting down. Yep. I would say life on the farm never gets boring for long.
